Best Spaces in the News

Best Spaces leadership is available to comment on post-occupancy evaluation, community-engaged design, and social impact measurement in the built environment.

Dr. Victoria Lanteigne is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Best Spaces Design Institute (BDSI) and the creator of the Best Spaces™ Standard. A researcher, practitioner, and entrepreneur working at the intersection of design, public policy, and social impact, she has spent nearly two decades advancing more equitable, inclusive, and community-centered built environments.

The Best Spaces™ Standard grew out of doctoral research Victoria began in 2020, exploring how community priorities are gathered, translated into design decisions, and evaluated after occupancy. Six years later, that work has evolved into a nonprofit organization, a national certification framework, and a growing evidence base on Experience Performance in the built environment.

Before founding BSDI, Victoria advised organizations including the NBA, the Obama Presidential Center, the YMCA, and the ACLU on inclusive design strategies, and was instrumental in developing the universal and inclusive design credits within LEED v4 and WELL v2. She began her career in disability rights in Washington, DC — work that sparked a career-defining commitment to ensuring underrepresented communities shape the environments built for them.

Victoria holds a PhD in Design from North Carolina State University, where she also serves as Co-Director of the Alliance for Inclusive Design Practice and Research, and a Master of Public Policy from George Washington University. Her forthcoming book on Experience-Driven Design is anticipated from Routledge in 2028.
